Our method

How we test

Every product on The Berner Edit carries one of two labels. Here's what each one means — and what we will never claim.

The two labels

Reviewed by a real Berner

Furio — our Bernese Mountain Dog — tried it on camera over days or weeks of normal life. The page shows the reviewer, how long it was tested, and a plain verdict. If there's video, it's embedded right on the page.

Editorial pick

A product Berner owners keep recommending that Furio hasn't camera-tested yet. It's here because the community evidence is strong — not because we pretended he tried it.

How products get on the list

  1. Community signal first. We read what Berner owners actually buy and complain about — breed groups, Reddit threads, and the questions people ask us.
  2. Berner-sized filter. A product has to survive 90+ pounds, a double coat, and a dog who sheds like it's a job. Generic "large breed" gear that fails at Berner scale doesn't make the cut.
  3. Hands-on where it matters. The highest-stakes categories — chews, harnesses, food — get real at-home trials with Furio before we call them reviewed.

What we don't do

Affiliate note

The Berner Edit doesn’t use affiliate links right now — links on this page are plain retailer links. If we add affiliate links later, we’ll disclose it here. We only list products we’d buy for our own Bernese.
